Arbonne eye shadows and blush - Reviewed and Recommended

"Arbonne’s recently launched makeup line comes with a full range of 20 eye shadows ($18 each) and 8 blush colors ($28). Since I already had a good experience with their foundation and tinted moisturizer, I was looking forward to testing these out.

We were sent the shadows below, Smoke (grayish brown), Divine Prune (mauve with gold specks), and Blue Slate (navy), as well as their blush in Apricot not pictured). They all come in their own sleek gunmetal compact.

I’m not sure if you can make out in the picture since it seems a bit dull, but the colors I have to say are beautifully light reflecting. My favorite is Smoke which I is a nice light color for day time, but can be combine with a darker shadow like Blue Slate to create a smoky eye. I found they are fairly buildable, all containing an ounce of shimmer.

The ingredients are antioxidant-packed. Key ingredients in the shadows are polypeptides, cucumber extract, mallow extract and vitamins A, C, and E. Mallow extract (malva sylvestris) is used in cosmetics as an anti-inflammatory, but has also been found to be an antioxidant due to 11 different compounds. A 2004 study concluded that ferulic acid is a more powerful antioxidant than alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), and ascorbic acid (vitamic C) – both of which derivatives are present in the shadows as well. Cucumber extract works as a skin-soother. Titanium dioxide gives a small, but added, benefit of sun protecting particles.

My only gripe is that they don’t come with an applicator — it would make it so much better to carry on the go!

The blush contains identical ingredients, so all the same benefits but on your cheeks! The mineral-infused colors we tested have a youthful opacity to them and even the darker colors are sheer enough to forego the garish, matte look. Of course, depending on your skin tone and texture, colors will always look different on different people. But since these have all the qualities I like (lightweight, skin conditioning ingredients, and pretty colors!), I’m hanging on to mine.
